Empty Nets, Full Hearts

Devotional

Have you ever worked tirelessly only to come up empty-handed? The disciples experienced this when they spent a night fishing without catching anything. It’s a feeling many of us know well – putting in maximum effort but seeing minimal results. Yet this moment of frustration became the setting for a powerful encounter with Jesus. Sometimes our empty nets are exactly what God uses to demonstrate His abundance and redirect our focus back to Him. When we’re operating in our own strength, we often come up short. But when we follow His guidance, even in areas where we consider ourselves experts, the results can be extraordinary.

Bible Verse

“When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.” – John 21:6

Reflection Question

In what areas of your life are you trying to succeed through your own efforts rather than following Jesus’s direction?

Quote

Sometimes you work and work and work and try to accomplish what you want, and life just hands you a goose egg. But I’ve struggled so hard. I’ve worked so long, Lord. There’s got to be more to it than this.

Prayer

Lord, help me recognize when I’m relying on my own strength rather than Your guidance. Give me the humility to listen when You direct my path, even in areas where I feel confident. Thank you for being the source of true abundance. Amen.
