Devotional
Have you ever considered that your name appears in the Bible? Not literally, of course, but Jesus specifically included you in His prayer in John 17. When He prayed for “those who will believe in me through their word,” He was looking down through the centuries to you and me—to all who would come to faith through the testimony of the disciples. This is a profound thought: before you were born, before you knew Him, Jesus was praying for you. And what was His prayer? That you would experience unity with God and with other believers. This unity was so important to Jesus that it dominated His final prayer before His arrest and crucifixion. Why does this unity matter so much? Because it’s through our oneness that the world comes to know Jesus. When people see Christians from different backgrounds, with different personalities and preferences, loving each other and working together, they glimpse something supernatural. They see evidence that Jesus is real and that His love transforms relationships. Conversely, when Christians are divided—arguing, competing, separating over non-essentials—we damage our witness. We contradict the very message we claim to proclaim. Jesus knew this, which is why He prayed so earnestly for our unity. Today, remember that you are personally included in Jesus’ prayer. He is still interceding for you, still working to answer His own prayer by bringing His people together in love.
Bible Verse
“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” – Revelation 22:12-13
Reflection Question
How does it change your perspective to know that Jesus specifically prayed for you to be united with other believers? What responsibility does this place on you?
Quote
“Do you know that your name is in the Bible, that you are in the Bible?”
Prayer
Jesus, I’m amazed that You included me in Your prayer. Thank You for desiring unity for Your church and for continuing to work toward that end. Help me to see other believers as You see them—as precious people for whom You prayed and died. Use me to build bridges rather than walls within Your body. Amen.
